About “Naila and the Uprising”
Now showing world-wide, the documentary depicts how a woman - Naila Ayesh audaciously pursues love, family and freedom where it seems impossible during the political and social turbulences in Gaza. Naila joined a clandestine network of women in a movement which developed to a vibrant, nonviolent mobilization in Palestinian history – the First Intifada in the late 1980s. She contributed to the development of women’s economic independence in Palestine and self-sufficiency for Palestinian under Israeli occupation. After all the struggles, will Naila and other women achieve equality within and through their activism?

Through extensive interviews and footages, the film demonstrates how women’s private lives are closely related to the wider political condition of a country and why it is important for women to participate in political movements for freedom.
